Nobody reads this blog anyway. So, I'm going to change it to format-free blogging. After all, there should not be a format when I'm expressing my views.
Today is another day. Another story to tell.
Culture is one of the factors of egotistical development. I find it interesting. Very interesting. A friend of mine who studies human behavior brought this up today.
I am a Malaysian Chinese. When celebrating Chinese New Year, I cannot have any monetary debts.
What if I break that rule? Some would say that I would have a cursed year. Some would say that I did not abide to the Chinese culture.
The million dollar question is: Where is the logic behind these practices?
It certainly is mind bogging. But, here is my take on this.
There is nothing wrong with practicing cultural values, but there is one thing we should not compromise. That would be happiness.
As long as you are happy, just do what you feel is right. That way, ego would not even exist.
Yeah, mummy and daddy said you should not read a book in the dark. Your egotistical self decides not to listen. When you get told that you need to wear spectacles, you pull a long face. That kind of attitude deserves a good tight slap.
Now, you actually came up with some logic that reading in the dark helps sharpen your focus. Yeah, it sounds illogical to many people but as long as you are happy, you would be happy living with the consequences. That is good attitude.
As selfish as this sounds, we should not base our needs and wants on other people's views. This can be linked to culture. We should not base our needs and wants on what culture tells us to do.
It is definitely mind bogging. But it ain't rocket science.
